Rich Murphy is an award-winning cinematographer known for his work on films such as "The Hurt Locker," "Zero Dark Thirty," and "Captain Phillips." His latest film, "Shooting the Bruce," is a visually stunning drama that tells the story of a young man who goes to great lengths to photograph a legendary elk. I recently had the opportunity to interview Murphy about his work on the film.

Interview

Q: What was your vision for the cinematography of "Shooting the Bruce"?

A: I wanted to create a film that was both beautiful and realistic. I wanted the audience to feel like they were actually there in the wilderness with the characters. To achieve this, I used a combination of natural light and handheld camerawork. I also worked closely with the production designer to create a world that felt authentic and lived-in.

Q: The film is set in the remote wilderness of Montana. What were some of the challenges of shooting in such a challenging environment?

A: There were definitely some challenges to shooting in the wilderness. The weather was unpredictable, and we often had to deal with extreme heat and cold. We also had to be careful not to disturb the wildlife. But despite the challenges, I think the film's setting is one of its greatest strengths. The beauty of the wilderness is a character in and of itself.

Q: You've worked on some of the most critically acclaimed films of the past decade. What do you think sets "Shooting the Bruce" apart from other films?

A: I think "Shooting the Bruce" is a unique film because of its focus on character. It's not a film about action or adventure. It's a film about a young man's journey of self-discovery. I hope that audiences will connect with the characters and their struggles.

Q: What advice would you give to aspiring cinematographers?

A: My advice to aspiring cinematographers would be to shoot as much as possible. The more you shoot, the better you will become at your craft. Don't be afraid to experiment and try new things. And most importantly, don't give up on your dreams.

Rich Murphy is a master cinematographer who has created some of the most iconic images in modern cinema. His work on "Shooting the Bruce" is a testament to his skill and artistry. I highly recommend seeing the film when it is released.
