Sarangadhara Venkata Reddy Macha was born on 15 August 1935 in Gudipadu, a village in Guntur district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. He hailed from a modest family of farmers and had a passion for films from a young age. After completing his education, he moved to Chennai, then known as Madras, to pursue a career in films.

Macha started his career as an assistant director under the legendary K. V. Reddy. He worked on several films, including the critically acclaimed Pathala Bhairavi (1951) and Maya Bazaar (1957). During this period, he also assisted other renowned directors such as L. V. Prasad and B. R. Panthulu.

Directorial Debut and Major Works

Macha made his directorial debut with the 1963 film Lakshadhikari, which was a commercial success. He went on to direct numerous films over the next four decades, establishing himself as one of the most prominent directors in Telugu cinema.
